SNWHP is proud to have participated in partnership with the Northern Nevada region of the Women's History Project, in lobbying successfully for a Statue of Sarah Winnemucca (see photo below) to be placed in the National Statuary Hall of Congress in Washington D.C. Assembly bill 267 was passed by the Nevada Legislature in 2001 and signed into law by Governor Guinn.
Together the SNWHP and the Northern Region of Nevada Women's History Project raised over $230,000 for the construction and placement of the Sarah Winnemucca Statue on March 9, 2005 in Washington, D.C. A duplicate statue was dedicated in the state capital in Carson City, NV on April 6, 2005. A third statue was dedicated in Las Vegas on March 25, 2006 in the Las Vegas City Hall.
After five years of writing and collecting information, the SNWHP, in March of 2006, published their First Edition of biographies of women who made a difference in the development and history of the State of Nevada.
This book, entitled
Skirts that Swept the Desert Floor
, was well received and is now in its second printing. Copies of the book were distributed, by SNWHP, free of charge, to every library and secondary school in the State of Nevada.
